Top 5 MAC Products

Today I’ve decided to dedicate a (very brief) post to my 5, absolute must have, MAC products (were talking deserted-island-style-goodies). I’ve been repurchasing these for a number of years now, and I use most daily. I would recommend them to anyone from beginner to pro. So without further waffling, and in no particular order, please bow down to these iconic crowd pleasers.

  • Fluidline Eye-Liner Gel in Dipdown (Dark Neutral Brown) / Blacktrack (Intense Black) Retails for R 210.00. I absolutely love this product; it’s highly pigmented, long lasting and smudge proof. It’s also easier to work than liquid liner, and I find it’s best applied with a MAC 208 Brush. One of the first products I used, when I just started doing makeup, and I’d recommend it to anyone – even the novice cat-eyeliner enthusiast.
  • Mineralize Skinfinish in Medium Deep (Flat Golden Brown) Retails for R 350.00. I use this instead of a bronzer when doing contouring; I prefer the flat colour to anything with shimmer in it, which I generally reserve for highlighters.
  • Retro Matt Lipstick in Ruby Woo (Intense Red with a slight blue undertone) Retails for R 210.00. A sonnet should be written in honour of this gem, I have yet to meet anyone who doesn’t look magnificent in this shade. It will change your life, promise.
  • Lashes in number 7 (natural looking, but with added glamour) or 33 (natural looking with a bit of a MOD twist) – Retails for R 160.00 each
After having a disastrous experience with eyelash extensions, I’ve started using lashes instead of mascara until my situation improves – which I’m hoping – will be soon! I find these can appear relatively natural, and if applied correctly, can truly pull your appearance together, rather nicely.
  • Pro Longwear Waterproof Brow Set – In the colour that suits you best, there are 6 shades. Retails for R 215.00. I’m currently using Emphatically Blonde. I use this to tame my brows – which can be quite unruly at times. It adds a hint of colour, and is perfect for when you’re on the go.

A word on budget; Doing the math, these products equate to quite a bit, R1145.00* to be exact. However, when considering costs and feasibility, you ought to factor in the number of applications you’ll obtain from these. I can say, with confidence that the majority of these products have lasted well over a year! I guesstimate that this cost could be divided into at least, 6 months – and Honey, that’s if you were a finalist in RuPaul’s Drag Race!
